Birchbox August 2013 Review

I've been having a dry spell with subscription boxes lately. I need some ideas for new ones to get so if you have any suggestions, feel free to let me know about them!

My Birchbox for August came in!! I was a little bit disappointed with last month's box so I was pretty anxious about opening this one up to see what would be inside. I try not to look at spoilers because I love being surprised!

Cost: $10/month

The theme of this month's box was "Finishing School". Which I thought was kind of ironic because I just finished my Summer semester class! Now I get a few weeks off before my Fall semester classes start.

The first item was a coupon code for any Ann Taylor products. I've never owned anything from Ann Taylor but I love how sophisticated their products are! They are a little bit on the pricey side for me but maybe I could afford an item in clearance with the code? I'll have to search for something good!

What do you guys think of a shirt like this? I don't wear orange very often so I thought it would be fun to mix it up a little! It's on sale right now for $49.99 but I saw that they have a different coupon deal for 40% off any product so I may have to take the plunge and order it!

Value: $4.74

Would you believe me if I told you that this was the first tube of BB cream that I have ever gotten? Everyone talks about how much they love BB cream, I've just been waiting to receive a sample in one of my subscription boxes because I was sure that I would get one eventually. I always use Amazon for my pricing and reviews, this brand and product had some really good reviews so I have some high hopes!

Value: $2?

Here's another product with some really good online reviews! It is supposed to protect and strengthen your hair while taming the fly-aways. I couldn't find any size on the bottle though so my best guess was that it had a value of around $2.

Value: $1.21

I always have the problem where I have shiny/oily skin whenever I forget to wash my face. Apparently this is the brand that the American Idol contestants use so that their faces don't look as shiny on camera. It is supposed to give your skin that even-toned, matte look for up to 8 hours. I can't wait to try this out! I could really use it on my 12+ hour days!

I always get really excited before I open this box because it comes with every month's box! It's like a surprise inside of a surprise :)

Value: $2.40

I remember a lot of other people getting the Birchbox bobby pins in their boxes about 2 months ago, but I never got any. This is the first time getting the decorated bobby pins from Birchbox! I have a thing for decorated and colored bobby pins. I use them all of the time. I have a friend from South Korea and decorated bobby pins were popular over there before I could even find any in the USA. I remember asking her to send me some. These are a little bit thicker than I normally wear but I could play it up to look cute holding my bangs back or something :)

Value: $8

I got the shade, "Dusk Till Dawn". It looks like a very deep red/brownish shade. I don't wear lipstick too often but I always like to have it around for special occasions. This isn't my favorite shade though, I'm not sure how well it's going to match my skin tone. I still like the quality of the lipstick though so that's a plus!

Total Value of the Box: $18.35

I almost got double the value of the price I paid for this box! If you're completely new to subscription boxes, I would definitely recommend that you subscribe to Birchbox! I have never been really upset with any of my boxes and I always get my monies worth!

Do you subscribe to Birchbox? What items did you get this month?

Disclaimer: I paid for this box with my own money, all opinions are my own. This post includes referral links.

  3. Ah, you got the lipstick! So jealous! :) I tend to get mostly card or foil samples from them. It starting to really annoy me. My last deluxe sample was body wash [which in all honesty costs like $3]. I want deluxe makeup samples! :(

  10. I loved the lipstick in mine - I got the bright red color though, so it is not for everyday, ha. Definitely thinking about purchasing the set!
