Sunday Social
1. What do you miss most about being a kid?

I really miss going to my Grandma's house all of the time. I used to spend almost every weekend and a couple of weeks of summer at my Grandma's house when I was younger. It was the best time ever! We used to stay up until the wee hours of the morning playing Old Maid and UNO :)

2. Dd you have a nickname growing up? What was it?

I never had a nickname growing up. Everybody called me Erica, or when I got into trouble it was always Erica Lynn LOL. I guess that a lot of people did call me Blondie and Goldie too. People still call me Blondie today.

3. What was your favorite thing to do at recess?

Four square was the best game EVER. My girlfriends and I used to spend so much time playing four square. If we weren't playing four square, we were pretending like we were Cheetah Girls. Do you guys remember the Cheetah Girls? It seems so long ago now!

4. What did you want to be when you grew up?

My dreams and goals were pretty generic when I was younger. I wanted to either be an actor or a singer, even when I was younger I knew that they would never happen though LOL. A girl can always have big dreams though, right? At one point I even wanted to me a model, that was more during my Jr. High days.

5. Did you participate in any school activities?

I actually participated in a lot of school things. I was in student council, volleyball, basketball, tennis, patrol, math club, reading club, world mission... I think that was pretty much it. That's all between Elementary School and High School. I was pretty active with my school activities.

6. What is the funniest thing you did as a kid that your parents still remind you about?

They will never, ever let me forget about the time that I rode my bike from my house, all the way to the closest gas station and back. The closest gas station was about 5 miles from my house and I was about 6 years old. My parents had no idea where I was and at the time, it was definitely not funny. We have a good laugh about it now though. I only did it because I wanted to get some candy LOL.

Comments

  1. I loved time at my grandparent's house when I was little, too! And that bike story...how long did that take you?! Can you imagine if a kid did that now? Someone would probably call the police if they saw a kid that little riding their bike on the side of the road by themselves. I remember riding my bike with my cousins from their farm to the local story, but it wasn't quite that far. :)

  2. THE CHEETAH GIRLS! omg my BFFS and I were probably the most annoying people in elementary school because we would re-enact every scene and sing every song!

  5. I love reading the answers to your questions and seeing how we were alike or different. In our case we were very different.
I miss the freedom to ride my horse and play outside all day long without worrying about making money.
My nickname growing up was Filly because I was always on my horse when I wasn't in school.
At recess I was always literally chasing boys around the playground.
I wanted to be a teacher with a passion when I grew up. Then I saw how terrible our school systems were and that drastically changed. Now ironically I am using all of that knowledge to teach my kids.
Like you, I was involved in a lot of things in school. I wasn't able to do sports because my Mom said it was either sports or my horse, naturally I choose my horse. There are times I wonder if I made the right choice! I was involved in yearbook, radio/news crew, SC Education Association, Teacher Cadet, AQHA, Future Farmers of America (thought I was going to marry a big time country boy, and I had to be prepared), and many other clubs.
There are a few items my mom reminded me of all the time. I was a teenager and my mom and I went on a moon light ride. It was FREEZING cold, and despite the many layers of clothes my nipples were still poking through my clothes, and I hollered at my mom that I hoped the coon hunters didn't see me because I had a major case of headlights going on. She told me if they didn't see me already they would be sure to be looking now. Another time, my mom and I went on a major shopping spree (which happened only a handful of times in my life with her) and as we were leaving the store my mom's arms were loaded down with everything and I had only a small little bow in my hand. (It was a case of you had to be there to see how funny it was.) Of course, the all time funniest thing that happened to me was I was training my at the time two year old colt, and he decided he was going to buck himself right on into a ditch that was so big that he literally was able to stretch himself out and put his head on it. I was still on his back when he got in there. We ended up having the fire department come rescue us.

I look forward to getting to know you more. ;)

  6. I totally forgot about being a patrol in elementary school. I would tell all of the younger kids to move along and to make sure they walk in a straight line. I was drunk with power, I tell ya.

    Have a great Sunday,
