I was lucky enough to be contacted by the people over at Mexican Candy Box. They offered to send me a sample of their very first box and of course, I accepted their offer right away! September was their very first month in operation so I was really interested in seeing the type of products that would be included. If you aren't familiar with Mexican Candy Box, it is a monthly subscription service that sends out 8-10 different types of candies and snacks from Mexico. Half of the snacks are sweet while the other half are spicy.

Cost: $12/month

I was sent the Solo (Individual) box and it is $12 a month. The next option is the Amigo (Friend) box and it has the same items as mine plus some extra pieces. That option is $15 a month. The last option is the Familia (Family) box and it is $20 a month. It has twice the amount of candy as my box has.

The description card is on a paper the size of a business card and it translates what all of the candy pieces are in English. By the looks of it, a lot of the pieces of candy are very different than the candy that they sell in my grocery stores! Whenever I travel to a different country, I usually make it a point to try their popular candy so I was really excited to try these!

These were the firse thing that I grabbed out of my box and let me tell you, they are so good! Butterscotch is one of my favorite types of candy so I was more than happy to eat a couple. I let D have some too and they definitely passed his expectations of butterscotch candy!

I'm not a hug gum eater but I do enjoy a piece every once in awhile. D likes to eat a lot more gum than me so he'll probably take these. I know that I'd enjoy the Tutti Frutti flavor!

Bocadin Chocolate Wafers

Wafers are one of my favorite snacks ever! My Grandma used to buy them all of the time for me so I've always loved them. I tried these and I couldn't believe how good they were! I would definitely buy some more for D and I.

Duvalin Hazelnut and Strawberry

I can't think of any candy here in America that might be an equivalent to this. You use the little spoon on the side to scoop the creamy hazelnut and strawberry. Hazelnut is another one of my favorite candy pieces! I drink hazelnut coffee all of the time. It's so good!

LUCAS Mango Mexican Candy

This is sweet and sour powder crystals that is supposed to taste like mango. I read somewhere that it tastes really good when you sprinkle it on top of candy or fresh fruit. This reminds me of those Baby Bottle Pops! Only without the bottle shaped hard candy at the top. They were one of my favorite candies as a kid.

Del Puesto Lollipop

These might be a little more like the baby bottle pops than the last product was. Although, it definitely has it's own little twist to it. There are watermelon and mango flavored lollipops in each of these. Only except for having a sweet candy powder at the bottom, it's chile powder. I can't say that I have ever tried chile powder with a lollipop but I'm always up for trying new things! I bet it actually tastes really good.

Pulparindo Extra Hot and Salted Tamarind Pulp Candy Mexican Candy

From what I gathered on the internet, this is actually hot and salty candy made from real fruit. I've tried hot candy before, but not so much salty candy. This should be really interesting to try! I bet that D would really like this because he like spicy foods.

These are lollipops with chile powder around them! From what I am gathering from this box, chile powder and seasoning must be really popular in Mexico. I may have to let D be the first one to try these and let me know how much he likes them :)

I don't think that I've ever tried a goat milk lollipop before. From what I hear, goat milk tastes pretty good though so I'm definitely open to try it. It doesn't look too bad either!

I can't wait to try out all of these awesome candies! I've never been afraid to step outside of the box so trying new things is right up my alley. I think that I'm most excited to try out the chocolate wafer and hazelnut spread. I loved this box! This is a great way to discover new candy :)

  1. Very interesting. Tamarind is a love it or hate it kind of thing. It's not for me. Great review

  3. Thanks for your input! Since the spicy, tamarind candy isn't for everyone - we've made some changes to our services here at the Mexican Candy Box.

You can now order one of three Flavor Boxes: Sweet & Spicy Mix, Sweet Only, or Spicy Only. You can also choose a single box to try it out, or subscribe monthly.
