Diamond Candles vs Prize Candles

This week I'm trying a different type of post! Since I love subscription boxes, that means that I love surprises. So, of course I would love to try out surprise candles! I wanted to see which type of ring candle was better, Diamond Candle or Prize Candle

I got both candles in 2 different scents, Prize Candle was Blue Cypress and Diamond Candle was Be Mine (smells like wild berries, amber and roses). Each of the candles cost $25 a piece. Although, Prize Candle offers $10 your first purchase and Diamond Candle offers free shipping on orders $45 or more.

Inside both companies candles, there is a ring worth $10-$5,000.

First, the shipping. I ordered both candles the same night, within 15 minutes of each other. Prize Candle came 2 days before Diamond Candle did. My Prize Candle came pretty dirty though, I had to clean off the glass container because in had candle wax all over the sides. My Diamond Candle came in perfect condition though.

Both candles had a sticker on the side, marking where the ring is in the candle.

As for the candle itself, Diamond Candle is about twice the size of Prize Candle so it lasts twice as long. Although, I thought that the scent of Prize Candle was stronger than Diamond Candle

Now for the good part! Revealing the rings!

This is the ring that I got with my Prize Candle. It was wrapped in a plastic baggie inside of the candle.

It's only worth $10 and it's a large, emerald green heart stone.

I'm not a huge fan of this ring... It reminds me of something that little girls would play with and it's just not my style. It's too bulky and looks tacky on me, I can guarantee that I would never wear it. I love the emerald green color but I hate the bulkiness and heart shape. This ring probably would of looked 100% more appealing to me if it was in any different shape. If you look closely, you can even still see wax on the ring. I tried scrubbing it off but it's pretty stuck on there.

Then this is the ring that I got with my Diamond Candle, it was wrapped in red foil and a small plastic bag.

From what I can tell, it's probably only valued at $10. You can't tell from the picture, but it's actually a light pink color with white stones on the sides. I like it so much better than the ring from Prize Candle
This ring was much more practical and I would wear it with my normal outfits. The packaging around it was a lot better too, it doesn't have dried on wax all over it.

My Final Thoughts: At this point, I would buy Diamond Candle over Prize CandleDiamond Candle is a better value for your money because both candles are the same price and Diamond Candle is twice as big, meaning more burning time. Plus, I liked their ring a lot better too!

Have you ever tried Diamond Candle or Prize Candle? Which was your favorite?

Disclaimer: I bought these products with my own money and all opinions are my own.

  1. I got prize candles when they had a buy two get two free...i love the smell of them but my ring has wax on it too! if you ever figure out how to get it off let me know! I have also tried jewelry in candles and i like them alot because you can chose your ring size or what piece of jewelry you want and they smell fantastic! however the shipping time is pretty slow right now.

    2. you can use a tooth brush easily and the wax comes off and doesn't hurt the ring

  2. If you know what kind of wax is on the ring, you have a couple of different options for cleaning it. If it is soy, you can clean it with a soft bristled toothbrush and hot water. If it's paraffin wax, there is a product called "Undo" that removes candle wax. I've used it for years. I make candles from time to time and it's really been helpful whenever I've had a wax spill. Soy isn't good to put down your sink drain, but the amount on your ring is so small it shouldn't affect it. If it were more though, I would recommend you be very careful about how you would dispose of it as soy shouldn't be poured down a drain as it will clog it. I hope this is helpful to you. You should be able to find the 'Undo' in any craft section of most stores or at Jo-Ann or Michael's stores.

  4. I've now tried.. Prize Candles and Jewel Scent.. I've noticed the same thing.. the size of Prize Candle is HALF the size of Jewel Scent.. I've gotten several rings from both companies (large orders) and so far.. on my 5th Prize candle I've gotten 4 of the SAME ring just different color stone.. all very cheap looking covered in wax. Not a fan of many of the scents. With Jewel Scent .. I've gotten some amazingly beautiful rings and I got to pick the size with them. I love the smell and they are clean vs the dusty wax cover on almost ALL of my candles from Prize Candle. Diamond Candle is now in the mail.. we shall see :)

  6. Jewel Scent seems to compare to Diamond Candles in your description. I've also purchased about 6 (buy 3 get 3) candles from Prize Candle.. same exact experience.. dirty.. wax covered.. most rings were bulky and very cheap looking..and at least 4 were the same ring diff color stone. Diamond Candle is on it's way.. so we shall see how it compares :)

  9. I just tried Prize Candle for the first time and I was NOT impressed ... the candle itself did not have much of a smell at all (You had to put your nose almost to the flame to smell it) and it burned down quickly! The plastic casing the ring came in wasn't the easiest to clean off. The ring I received looked kind of like a snake skin print on the side with an oval shaped top with medium size round blue zirconia on it (Like March or December's birthstone). I typically wear a size 6 on my ring finger, but this ring was too big for any finger (even the thumb - its fell off 3 times just while trying to type this) and the stone was also loose when I took it out of the bag. Needless to say, I cancelled my subscription. IMO the candles cost too much to 1) not be able to smell them 2) burn down as quick as it did (I was hoping for something along the lines of a Yankee Candle) and 3) have a ring that, to me, is useless.
Maybe I'll try Diamond candle one day ...

    1. I have tried diamond candles, bella candles and I am waiting on my prize candles. The first ring I got from diamond was nice but the second one I got turned your finger green and all the gold plating came off it.
bella candles are all sterling silver the rings so far have been nice although 2 of them looked the same just different colored stones. The one my grand daughter got was a very pretty ring. Not sure if any of them are worth anything but at least they don't turn your finger green. I just hope the ones from prize candles aren't as bad as I have read now I am kind of sad that I ordered from them. Hopefully I will find one one of these days that I really love. As for the scent of the candles diamond candles have had the best smell.

  10. I just tried my first JewelScent candle. The candle I ordered was Lavender scented. Does not give off much aroma. The ring is pretty. On line appraisal of $32.00. The disappointing part is that I wore the ring for a few days & around the ring band my finger started to turn black. I never slept or showered with the ring on just wore it during the day @ work etc.So - even though it was a fun time burning the candle & uncovering my surprise I say "Buyer Beware".

  11. I too am trying prize candles for the first time. I have tries jewelscent and jewelryincandles. So far jewelry in candles has the best smelling, yummy candles that have along burn time. Jewel scent was nice to, same size 21oz. as the other but found candle scent was really light. However, jewelry in both have been nice and pretty. Jewel scent gave me a real sterling sliver ring with blue sapphires. Took to a jeweler. And a pendent I received in one of the jewely in candles had real garnets and sliver. Both pieces I enjoy wearing. The rest of the rings are costume jewelry but still nice and simple enough to wear everyday. From the reviews I have read, glad I only got one candle and discounted at that. I highly recommened jewelscent or if you like a candle to fill the room with scent Jewelry in candles based out of Louisville KY.

  12. I have ordered from Diamond Candle, Jewel Scent, and Prize Candle. What I didn't like all of the rings had wax on them. Diamond Candle you couldn't pick your size of ring and there wasn't an appraisal code to check it out. Basically if it said 14 K then you knew it was real. Jewel Scent LOVE you could pick your ring size. At first they didn't do the appraisal but they now do. Diamond Candle and Jewel Scent had the most wax on the rings. Last I ordered was from Prize Candle. I did the BOGO. The rings did not have a bunch of wax. HOWEVER I was one of the lucky ones. I did get the $5,000 ring. It didn't have much wax on that ring thank God. All 3 candles smell great and diamond candles smell wasn't as strong as the other 2 companies. I basically order from Prize Candle and Jewel Scent now.

  15. I have ordered 3 Prize Candles in two different orders. I'm still waiting for them to arrive. I just received tracking information. It looks like the candles will take 18 days and 14 days respectively to arrive from the date of order to the delivery date. Seems like a long time to me. I cant comment on the quality of the ring or candle obviously yet but I am disillusioned at the amount of time for delivery. I live in the Midwest so central location for online ordering usually means moderate ship times but apparently not for Prize Candle. It took each order 9 and 11 days just to ship, then about a week each for delivery.

    ReplyDelete
  16. I'm simply annoyed with how long it is taking my two different prize candle orders to arrive. I am now following FedEx tracking and if the date is correct, the candles will have taken 2 1/2 weeks to arrive from the date of order. The crazy part is they sent them Fed Ex for delivery to my local Post Office will in turn deliver them to my home. I live less than 2 miles from the PO. Why do they ship this way adding 2 extra days to delivery? There were no back orders or anything that I am aware of. It simply took over a week to process my order an another full week plus for shipping. Very poor service if you ask me and hard to purchase them as gifts or last minute holiday items if the turn around time is this difficult. I'm centrally located too, they didn't have to ship very far. They are gonna have to be one heck of a candle before I would ever order again.

  17. I bought two prize candles and two diamond candles.
    Prize Candles:
The Prize Candles are way smaller, but smell better than the Diamond candles. Mine arrived in a cute box, not dirty at all. They burned pretty quickly to get the ring inside. The rings are in a plastic container, inside a plastic bag-marked made in China. (What dummy chose plastic to be incased inside a burning object?) The rings look like they were made in China. I just KNEW I was going to get a heart shaped ring because I hate them so badly, and I did. Bulky with a nasty pink stone. Other prize ring candlewas same bulky silver but with red oval stone. Way too big for thumb. Both had same appraisal code and were $10.

Diamond Candle: Didn't smell as they described. Burned forever 10+ hours just to get to where rings were at!! Wrapped in gold foil. Rings are gorgeous!! One fits and one is gigantic. I took the very beautiful but huge ring to a jewelry store, who said it was a extremely good fake, so I'm assuming under $100.

Conclusion: Don't buy prize candle for the ring. Don't buy diamond for the smell. Both are way too expensive as just a candle with a "bonus."

  18. I've bought Diamond Candles for a couple of years now. I just bought my first Prize Candles because they were BOGO. Prize Candle's order email says they will send an email when they ship. However, I didn't receive an email but they charged my credit card the day I placed the order. After several days, I sent an email asking about shipping. I got a robo email saying they would get back to me in 24-48 hours. They didn't. A few days later I got one candle in the mail. A few days after that, I finally got a response email in which they said the other candle was backordered but it had now shipped. I did receive the second candle a couple of days after that. So, while their customer service isn't great, I've now gotten what I paid for. But I won't be ordering any Prize Candles in the future. First of all, the candles are half the size of Diamond Candles. And the annoying plastic thing the ring comes in takes up even more room, so there is much less candle for the money. And it's hard to imagine that so much wax could get into that plastic thing but there's much more wax to deal with than with the bag and foil in Diamond Candles. I haven't gotten an expensive ring from either company but the "cheap" Diamond Candle rings are FAR better looking than the Prize Candle rings. I would never think of wearing either of the Prize Candle rings but wear several of the Diamond Candle rings often. Also, I got two different scents of the Prize Candles but they both smelled pretty much the same. I'm sticking with Diamond Candles from now on. Better value, better rings, better scents.

  19. I am a rep for Jewelry In Candles. We also sell the soy wax candles, but you get to choose your ring size or even pick earrings or a necklace. A few products even have the choice of mens rings (and again, you choose the size). One more thing we have is soy wax tarts, also with your choice of jewelry. I usually only use half a tart at a time, and it lasts for 2-4 days depending on the scent. The candles burn for a very long time and give off great scent as well. Our shipping is priority mail flat rate 2-3 day shipping and currently processing time is about a day!
I encourage you to give it a try - most of our scents are amazing! Apple Harvest smells just like christmastime to me - apple spice, warm and inviting! They do not offer appraisal; however, they ship immediately - got mine in 3 days. The candles are phenomenal! The smells are wonderful, they are soy and long lasting. The tarts are more than double the size of scentsy...enjoy!

  33. I've bought and used at least 10 of these candles and the ring value in ever single one was $10. The rings are also always covered in wax whenever I burn them down to reveal the ring. The style and colors of the rings are incredibly cheap looking and I could easily buy the same kind of ring separately for far less than the price of these candles. From my experience, statistically, I'd probably have to buy 20 or so more candles just to have a chance of getting a ring valued at more than $10. $24.95 is utterly ridiculous for the price of one candle that has far too short a burning time and a prize that's worthless.

  35. I have bought 2 diamond candles and 4 prize candles. The two rings I got from Diamond Candles were pretty and do not seem too "cheap". I need to get one appraised because it does have an imprint in it. I still have one more prize candle to dig out or burn. Two of the rings seem very cheap and they are not pretty. The other one I just retrieved looked a lot better. The quality of these rings are cheap but the ones I have got from Diamond Candles seem a little more well built. For now on, I will buy Diamond Candles because I have had more success with them and there is more candle to burn (also they smell better).

  38. I purchased 3 diamond candles and 2 prize candles and one time from fragrant jewels. The Diamond candles were better looking rings overall even if they were stainless steel. The prize candles scents were too stinky. They smelled almost the same for two different ones. The diamond candles scents were awesome, but were also in stainless steel. However their stones were of a good quality. Similarly the stones on the prize candle were good but the settings were cheap and not well done. The one I liked best as far as the product was the fragrant jewels beads. By far the best smelling product. All rings were $10. So If i just went to my local $0.99 store and bought a candle and then spent the other $23 at JTV.com in the $1 rising auctions I end up with rings in silver with real gemstones ( as long as you pay attention to what the description says you won't get junk) and I have decided like the post above, the $25 plus shipping for a candle is stupid considering how many rings are not really the right size or style. I think I am done with these treasure hunting products. I literally have four awesome real silver and gemstone rings from the auctions that cost a total of $23.98 and were just exactly what I hoped. Also I wish to ad that JTV doesn't make you buy every auction you win, so if you decide against something you aren't stuck and they do not add time with every bid. Its simple and they can be dirt cheap. So if you want jewelry for cheap try them and buy a dollar store candle or incense!

  39. I purchased THREE candles from FragrantJewels (Fragrant Jewels) and was incredibly disappointed. I got one free ring with purchase. All four rings were super small and dainty which may be because I ordered in a size 6. However, Fragrant Jewels should note that not all size 6 ladies are teenagers! Two of the four were stainless steel (one "valued" on their vault at $10 and one at $25". However, it was strange that the larger one was valued at less than the smaller with similar stone). Two of the more "valuable" were not marked at all. I'm guessing a mixture of cheap metals with glued in stones. Candles were very small and I'm guessing the 3 wick candle had less wax than the single wick. Smell was nice, but the same candle could be purchased at TJ Maxx for about $8. I won't be purchasing again. HUGE waste of money.

Same price as Diamond Candles but smell waaay better. Dont waste your money on Bella Candles, they smell awful and they come in busted jars. Fragrant Jewels are 18-20 ounces, not certain but THEY SMELL GREAT! Sometimes you get a pretty ring sometimes not, its all chance but so worth the money, with or without the ring. Remember.......Fresh Cut Roses!

  41. I've bought from both companies and never gotten a ring over $25. I agree with the diamond candle being the better one as the size means it burns longer. But there is a better candle company I have bought from, Bella Candle. Their rings are sterling silver so no more green fingers and they have much better fragrances. They ship in these cute boxes and every time I have had to contact customer service it has been wonderful. One candle arrived broken and they immediately shipped a new one.

Even better, you are guaranteed to get a ring in your size, necklace, or earrings that is sterling silver or better. There is no costume jewellery here! Charity Candles also has tart sparklers for a wax warmer, plus lotions, room sprays, and decorative prize tarts, which when you order one, you will receive a prize along with your tart. The prize can be a gift card, a discount coupon, a wax warmer, or even an Apple ipad! I can recommend these candles easily to anyone, they truly are amazing!

Plus...it's more for the fun of it. Most people buy candles anyway, why not buy one with some jewelry inside.

    We're made in the USA
We are vegan, gluten free, & cruelty free (no animal testing)!
And we do not use artificial dyes like some.

  49. I've tried other candle companies, Jewel Scent and Bella, besides Prize Candle. I've spent a lot of money, but always buy them on sale. The other companies scents don't compare to Prize Candle in my opinion. I can walk into a room and it's filled with the scent of the candle when it's from Prize Candle. When I've burned the other candles, I can't smell them if I'm sitting next to them.

The rings in Bella candles are .925 sterling silver, so the rings are much more conservative in design compared to Prize Candle. The rings in Jewel Scent are also a more conservative design than Prize Candle. I checked out Diamond Candles and wasn't impressed with the available scents. They were all pretty run of the mill, scents I can get anywhere so I never ordered anything.

Some of the rings I've gotten are pretty cheap looking, but some are beautiful. I have at least two that are so sparkly they could be mistaken as real. One even looks like an engagement ring! My first ring from Prize Candle was a red heart-shaped stone. I really dislike hearts, so I was very disappointed. I've come to realize, it's hit or miss. I have a couple rings that appraise for $50 to $60 and one that appraises for $100. They aren't all from Prize Candle either. Keep in mind, the appraisal is their appraisal. I haven't taken them to a jeweler for a real appraisal because it would cost almost as much as the ring.

Prize Candle will always be my favorite because the scents are much better. My two favorite are Honey Amber and Antique Leather. I was leery about Antique Leather because I was afraid it was going to have a strong masculine scent, maybe pine or soapy. But it's not! It's very nice and has become my second favorite after Honey Amber (I have five Honey Ambers in my closet waiting to be burned).

I've been purchasing jewelry candles for just over a year. I've experienced two broken candles from Prize Candle, which they promptly replaced at no charge, not even shipping. I emailed pictures of the broken candles so they knew I wasn't scamming. They never asked for the candles back, so the nice part was I still got the rings in the broken candles. The last one they offered a fabulous deal on additional candles at $1 shipping per candle. It was a generous offer.

There was one time I didn't receive any notification of my candles shipping. Rather than continue to be frustrated by emailing and waiting I called them. They were very friendly and acknowledged they had my email. I spoke with someone here in the U.S. too. Because she basically read some of what was in the email to me, I knew she found and was looking at it while I was on the phone. You just don't have that kind of customer service these days.

I don't buy the candles for the rings anymore. I buy them because I love the scents, the ring is just a bonus.

  50. I think one thing you have to remember is that Prize Candle never sends you a valuable ring. lol every single ring you get will be worth $10,you have to enter the code to see if you won anything more valuable and they will send it to you, insured obviously, if it is a 2 or 5 thousand dollar ring. Their candles smell absolutely divine! If you are buying the candles for a valuable ring, then yes, you are probably going to be a Grinch about it. If you love good smelling candles then its just a fun bonus to get the rings. If you want a pretty ring that is worth money, save your cash and go buy one!

  51. Excellent drawing! I got a robo email saying they would get back to me in 24-48 hours. They didn't. A few days later I got one candle in the mail. A few days after that, I finally got a response email in which they said the other candle was backordered but it had now shipped.Car Stickers

  56. I have bought from both companies. My very first purchase was Diamond candles. All the rings say they come with a 10.00 ring. They were very nice rings. Then I got to spin with the code and to my surprise I won a 1,000 ring that I got to choose. I saw the same ring on overstock for 1,100. It came with a very nice box and a certified card in a pastic protective cover. The scent was amazing. I bought other rings from them but never won anything else. Prize candles had nice rings that some were silver and valued at 25.00 but that was about it. The scent was not as strong and didn't fill the air like the Diamond candles. I bought 8 as a gift once and they were a mess. Wax on some of the sides. I was not a fan of them and probably won't buy from them again. I've since then bought from other companies as well.
