Want to sell your old clothes? Poshmark.

If you have a bunch of clothes that you don't wear, then Poshmark is the best thing for you. Poshmark is an app on iPod, iPad and iPhone products. The app lets you post pictures of clothes, shoes, jewelry, etc. that you don't wear anymore. The items can be new with tags, new without tags and lightly worn (just don't try to post your old t-shirt with that pizza stain on it, I can promise you that nobody will buy it).

Poshmark is a free application that you can get in the iTunes app store. As of right now, you cannot get the website on your computer. Unless, you have already signed up for an account on an iPad, iPod or iPhone. I signed up for Poshmark about a month and a half ago. Since then, I have sold over $3000 worth of stuff that I don't use anymore. I've sold shoes, jewelry, shirts, pants, sweaters, etc. The app is mostly geared towards women's and girl's/teen's items. Although, I have seen many people post men's and children's items. They do get sold as well. Most of the time it is a wife/girlfriend and/or mother who buys those items for their husband or children as a gift. I posted a pair of children's Adidas tennis shoes that have never been worn and in less than 30 minutes after I posted them, somebody bought them.

When you sign up, you have the option to sign up through your e-mail address or Facebook account. I choose to sign up through my Facebook account. If you decide to sign up, type in this code: OPPO5673
This code is a referral code and it will give you a $5 credit in the app. I have been both a seller and a buyer at Poshmark. Let me tell you about my experiences.

As a seller: The pictures that I have posted above are just a few of the things that I, personally, have sold on Poshmark. As you can see, I've sold quite a bit in the past month and a half. Those are just a few of the pictures though, I have sold a lot more than that. Keep in mind too, all of these items that I've sold were items that I probably would have dragged to the Goodwill within the next month. Selling stuff is really easy. All you have to do is post pictures of your items with a mobile device, describe it EXACTLY and set a price. The app asks for an original price and the price that you are asking for. If you don't know the original price, try to guess as well as you can or just put $0.  A lot of the times though, people will try to negotiate the price with you. I love negotiating the price so I usually put my original price higher then the price that I really want. A lot of sellers BUNDLE items. A bundle is when you put more than one item in a sale so that the buyer only has to pay for shipping once. A lot of sellers give extra discounts on bundles, for example 15% off. When you sell an item, Poshmark sends a prepaid shipping label to your e-mail. You print off the shipping label and put it on the box that the item is in. You can get boxes for free at the Post Office to put your sold items in, another option would be to order the boxes for free from the post office's website online. Then you ship the buyers items. You can put it in the mailbox if it fits, drop it off at the post office or you can schedule a pick up at your home with your local post office. When the buyer receives their item(s), they confirm that everything is as described and you receive your payment. If you don't let the seller know that something had a hole in it or anything like that, then they can return it to you and you have to pay for the shipping. When you want to withdraw your money, there are three ways to receive payment. You can request a check, get it deposited into your bank account or go through Paypal. Poshmark takes 20% from each sold item. Personally though, I'm willing to give that 20% because 1) I was just going to give these clothes away anyways and 2) Poshmark protects both, the seller and they buyer, from getting scammed.

As a buyer: I have bought a few things off Poshmark and I have been pretty pleased with it. The sellers I bought from were quick about shipping and very friendly. All you do to buy is go into somebodies closet, click buy if you like the item and they do the rest of the shipping. I usually ask the seller a lot of questions about the items before I buy because I want to make sure their item is perfect for me. I did a lot of my Christmas shopping on Poshmark. After you buy your item, all you can do is wait for the seller to ship your item. You have 3 days to confirm that the item is what you paid for. If there is anything wrong with it, you contact Poshmark and they will try to fix it for you. If you do not contact the company or confirm the shipment after 3 days, Poshmark assumes that everything is as described and the seller receives their payment.

If you follow ALL  of Poshmark's rules, you are guaranteed not to get scammed.

A lot of people try to "trade" items. DO NOT TRADE. This is against Poshmark rules and I know a lot of people have gotten scammed by trading. Since trading is not covered by Poshmark rules, you could send somebody their item and you may never receive yours back. Just buy the items from the sellers. If there is a hole in something or the item isn't what they described, then you can always get your money refunded. There is no guarantee with trading. Just protect yourself from getting scammed.

My final verdict of Poshmark is that it is a great way to sell old things that you don't use anymore. There is a buyer for everything out there. I don't like that some people try to scam others but Poshmark is pretty much a scam-proof app as long as you follow the rules. Don't forget to type in the code OPPO5673 when you sign up!!

Let me know if you have any other questions about Poshmark and I will respond to you almost right away!

  15. Hello I've signed up about a week ago but just started listing yesterday. From what I've read, it seems like everyone who uses PM gets to sell something right away. I have a bunch of questions! I was wondering, do people see your list at the top of their feed right when you list? Do they have to follow you to see them? Do you have to keep listing an item to sell to get noticed and get some likes going? From the previous comments, what does updating an item mean? Did you edit or change up words to update them so they can show up in news feed?

    1. Hi Erica....I appreciate your blog but Just for your information I will give you an update about Paypal transactions...this week I received a warning email from Poshmark and they said Paypal transactions are unacceptable...the email said:

      Hello Ana,

We here at Poshmark HQ truly value you as a member of the Poshmark community. This is why we are contacting you today about some activity on your account that is in violation of our community guidelines.
Take purchases outside of the application is unacceptable. This sort of activity hurts everyone--both you and the Poshmark community--by breaking down the sense of trust and integrity we have on the Poshmark app. We must ask that you cease this type of transaction at once. If we continue to see this pattern of behavior, your account will be in jeopardy.

I know for everyone is very hard to pay 20% commission and in my opinion they must reduce the rate so people will avoid to do that kind of transaction outside PoshM....I hope this help to inform people about this new PM rule...Regards...ANA

    2. The commission isn't that much when you consider that a portion of what they take goes directly to pay the shipping cost of your items(s).

    3. No the buyer pays 5$ shipping. The 20% doesn't cover shipping at all.

  17. Hi! I'm pretty new to Poshmark and I made my first sale, but the buyer is not happy because she misunderstood a previous comment with some description that I wrote for another posher, so she bought it without asking any questions and she assumed a feature of the item, so now she wants to return it. I already contacted Poshmark but they haven't answered yet, I told the buyer I don't have control over the return because of the shipping fee and the 20% Poshmark gets, also I haven't received the money yet because of the problem. I told her I could help her sell the item. What do you think is best to do? I feel bad because I want my poshmark buyers to be happy, so I don't know what to do.

  29. Usually, yes, that would mean that it was not shipped yet. Although, that same thing happened to me a few times. I ordered something and the seller said that they shipped the item but the status of the package never changed. As it turned out, the seller actually did send out the package, it was just that the website never updated it. If you don't get the package in the next couple of days I would contact Poshmark and ask if it had shipped.

  31. I have unfortunately had a very bad experience using poshmark, both times I have bought the seller assures me the item is there and then after I purchase they say it is not anymore and won't cancel the order so I wait the 10 days to cancel. Have you ever cancelled an order on poshmark? How long does it actually take for a refund. Poshmark said 1-2 days for them to process the refund and up to 2 billing cycles for a refund depending on the bank. I hope it doesn't take up to 60 days, but I can't find any information on someone actually receiving a refund.

    1. Hey Nicole! Unfortunately I have not had experience on refunds so I don't think that I would be much help. I can't imagine that it would take 60 days for the money to go back to your account though. That seems like a ridiculously long amount of time.

The coach replica's of coach, Louis Venton, Burberry, coach and much much more. IT IS VERY ILLEGAL TO DO THIS. I HOPE BY REPORTING THEM TO THE ABOVE MANUFACTURERS THEY WILL HELP STOP POSHMARK FROM DOING THIS.

They ignore all my emails and my reports that something is a replica and not the real item. I watch very closely and the people I report still have the listing. I only sell authentic items.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Thanks Michelle! Bundling is when you put more than 1 item in a sale so that the buyer only has to pay for shipping once. I believe that the $4.99 shipping is for any order above $25 and $6.99 is for sales under $25.

    2. So if I wanted to sell something and after the transaction has complete, then poshmark will email me with a shipping label for my item(s) as long as it is under 2-3 pounds? What about if the package weighs more than 3 pounds? Would I have to pay for the rest of the shipping if it is heavier than the allotted weight?

As a business owner myself, I would die if my customers were unable to contact me, or one of my employees. Instead they send autoreply messages, and take days sometimes weeks to respond. AND BEWARE... There are tons of FAKES and REPLICA bags, being sold everyday on Poshmark as authentic goods such as Louis Vuitton and CHANEL, I see a huge LAWSUIT from these Big Name trademarked companies in the near future. The Worst of the worst? THE ppl who are lowballing and selling designer items for 10x what they are worth due to the GREEDY CEO who collects 20% for doing absolutely nothing.. in the "HELP" department. THEY ACTUALLY DELETED one of my REAL CHANEL bags and told me it was a replica?... I am not the one to fake it until I make it .... Very often she ends up with loads and loads of brand name lady's clothing with the price tags still attached. Sometimes she ends up with truckloads! I'm wondering if marketing this clothing on PM might be profitable. Other 'review' websites are not very kind to PM...the biggest complaint is customer service. As a seller, and not a buyer, is customer service much of an issue?

  54. Hi Erica! I'm newer to Posh Mark. Hoping you can answer my question. I just sold my first bundle of 6 items that come to around 5.5 lbs. I understand that the regular shipping label only accommodates up to 2lbs (which the buyer has paid 4.99 for). So if I need a label for extra weight how do I go about doing so? I see in the app you can request extra weight but if the buyer is paying 4.99 for up to 2lbs wouldn't I only need to supplement the extra 3 lbs? Doesn't seem fair that I have to dish out another 8 bucks for a 6lb label. Or should I just be getting another 3lbs label for 1.99? Thank in advance for your insight!

I have ordered 5 things on Posh - If an item is not shipped within 7 days, Poshmark automatically contacts the seller and also lets you know via email that they have attempted to reach the seller but are unable and basically suggest that you cancel the order and get a refund...unless you want to wait or write on the sellers page. ALL 5 of my orders had been over 7 days - so i got the email on all of the. I didn't do anything at first, decided to wait (these have been spread out over a couple of weeks). One by one I was contacted by Posh that the sellers decided not to sell it due to: lost the item, the seller decided to keep it, or they just never heard back from the seller. I JUST got 1 of the items (2 weeks later). All the rest of the orders have been cancelled due to bad sellers! Customer Service is ok - they get back to you but they don't really do anything about the format. I feel like I have wasted time and energy on this site.

So I purchased 5 items (spread out over a couple of weeks). For every single item - 7 days later I got an email from Posh saying that my item was delayed due to the seller not responding. One by one each item was refunded to me - due to really lame reasons: item lost by seller, seller decided not to sell it (what?!). I never complained on Posh to the seller as there is not a way to message them - only talking directly to the listed post. I just got the 5th order (2 weeks after the fact). I complained to Posh - suggested to them to have a rating system or better way of regulating the sellers - the response back was pretty much "whatever".

  66. Poshmark does not provide support to its sellers when a buyer intentionally puts in a false claim on an item. They have a no return/refund policy in place, however a buyer can lie after they have received your item or worn your item and Poshmark falls on the side of the buyer without consulting the seller or finding out what was really the issue. Then they hold your money until they figure things out all while the buyer has your item they claim was not right.

  82. I will say I've had nothing but great experiences with Poshmark until now. I have had to reset my password and after several emails to their customer service, I have gotten no response as to a temporary password. Very frustrating when I have moneybin my account on there from selling things and I can not access it because they will not respond back to me.

  84. Poshmark is great, however, the company has not been able to manage the huge number of sellers who are selling unsupported items like baby clothes, men's clothes, electronics, DVD's, etc. I report every single one of these prohibited listings. I have had great luck on Poshmark because I follow the rules. There are lots of sellers who will falsely list their items to drive traffic to them. I wish Poshmark were able to keep up with this and put some sort of filter in place. Sadly, they have not, and I have been selling on PM for a year now. It's frustrating to say the least. Poshmark leaves us with no choice but to ignore the false listings and those who sell unsupported items. Yes, it takes attention away from those closets who follow all the rules, but I guess that's part of doing business in a world where honesty does not reign supreme.
